Regulate Roadside Commercial Activity
Reduced ‘turning’ crashes. Reduced pedestrian crashes. Improved traffic flow.
Roads should be designed to allow for changes in land-use over time. Building regulations should specify the limits which buildings may not extend beyond. Illegal development can only be controlled if there are alternative sites for commercial activity. Where activities near the road are permitted, countermeasures may be required to maintain safety. Where activities near the road are permitted, they should be restricted to one side of the road.
